It was stated in the Press that he had entered Singapore on a social visit pass. And that he did not ask for asylum. Singapore does not normally provide for asylum to foreigners. (The key question here is: Does he need to ask for asylum?) The Srilankan run-road, self-deposed, ex-President had earlier flee to Maldives and a group of protesters were quick to demand that Maldives must not harbour criminals. The Maldives government has heeded the people's demand and so it sent this run-road deposed ex-President elsewhere. After much research, the run-road ex-President must have thought that Singapore is the safest and most secured place to hide. As a result, it was permitted to land in Singapore.
